About Abduction 2: Revenge of the Hive Queen (2018)

Director: Maurice Smith

About the Director

Maurice Smith continues his exploration of independent sci-fi horror with Abduction 2: Revenge of the Hive Queen. Known for his imaginative creature concepts and alien-centered narratives, Smith expands the universe established in the original film by deepening its extraterrestrial mythology and intensifying its suspense-driven tone. His work in the sequel reflects a continued interest in unconventional horror storytelling, combining elements of science fiction, transformation, and psychological tension within a low-budget independent production framework.

Director’s Statement

Director Maurice Smith describes Abduction 2: Revenge of the Hive Queen as a continuation of his independent “makers” cinema approach, prioritizing creativity and commitment over budget constraints. He aimed to preserve the visual identity and tone established in the first film, even bringing back the original stylist to ensure the Hive Queen’s appearance remained consistent. The production was completed through tightly scheduled 3–4 day summer shoots to accommodate cast availability, reflecting the team’s logistical dedication. Smith also infused the film with subtle political satire, embedding caricature-like references to global leaders within alien creature designs. Above all, he credits the project’s completion to the collaborative passion of the cast and crew, many of whom returned or took on multiple roles to bring the sequel to life despite limited resources.
