Ellis Jennings Jr., also known as Sensei EJ, is a martial arts instructor and founder of Warriors Karate Academy in Columbus, Ohio. His work as a filmmaker is deeply personal, rooted in his commitment to youth mentorship, discipline, and community transformation through martial arts. With EJs Warriors the Documentary, Jennings steps behind the camera to chronicle the journey of his academy not only as a training ground for competitive athletes but as a response to crime and instability within the local community. The film reflects his leadership philosophy: resilience, structure, and purpose through martial arts training.

Director’s Statement

Director Ellis Jennings Jr. created EJs Warriors the Documentary as both a record of struggle and a celebration of transformation. What began as a small karate program in a church basement was built to provide structure, discipline, and opportunity for youth facing crime and instability in their community. Through this film, Jennings aims to show that martial arts is more than competition it is mentorship, accountability, and a pathway to purpose. By documenting the academy’s setbacks, growth, and eventual national recognition, the film highlights the power of resilience, faith, and community-driven leadership. It stands as a testament to what can happen when commitment and belief outweigh obstacles.
